The Grade R3-R3S Stud Link Offshore Mooring Chain is a heavy-duty mooring product CSAC Chain has developed specifically for the harsh environments of offshore operations. Featuring a "stud link" structural design—characterized by the presence of internal studs within the chain links—it offers superior structural stability compared to studless chains. This design effectively minimizes deformation and stress concentration while reducing the risk of kinking, making it ideally suited for offshore mooring scenarios involving prolonged exposure to cyclic loading. The Grade R3-R3S Stud Link Offshore Mooring Chain features a stud-link structural design, wherein each chain link is fitted with a central stud. Compared to studless chains, this design offers superior strength and minimal deformation. It is less prone to twisting or tangling during stacking and deployment, effectively reducing stress concentration during mooring operations and preventing link deformation or damage. This enhances the overall stability and safety of the mooring system, making it ideally suited for the long-term mooring requirements of large and medium-sized offshore platforms.

We utilize high-grade, high-strength steel to manufacture our Grade R3-R3S Stud Link Offshore Mooring Chains. Specifically, the Grade R3 chain is produced using 30Mn2 steel, boasting a tensile strength of no less than 690 MPa; the Grade R3S chain employs 25MnCrMo steel, featuring a tensile strength of no less than 770 MPa, along with superior fatigue resistance and toughness. Through rigorous heat treatment processes, we further enhance the steel's hardness and toughness, enabling the product to withstand the cyclic loads imposed by offshore winds, waves, and currents, thereby extending its service life.

Case 1: Southeast Asia Offshore Wind Power Project


Project Location: An offshore wind farm off the coast of a Southeast Asian nation.


Project Requirements: A mooring system compatible with semi-submersible offshore wind turbines was required. The mooring chains needed to demonstrate exceptional fatigue resistance, corrosion resistance, and high load-bearing capacity. Specifications ranged from 80mm to 100mm, and dual certification from DNV and ABS was mandatory.


Solution: We supplied this project with Grade R3S Stud Link Offshore Mooring Chains, along with accompanying accessories such as shackles and swivels. Manufactured using high-strength 25MnCrMo steel and produced via the pulse flash butt welding process, the products underwent rigorous manufacturing and inspection procedures strictly in accordance with DNV and ABS standards. Additionally, the surface anti-corrosion treatment was optimized to suit the specific marine environmental characteristics of the project site.


Project Feedback: Since being put into service, the products have operated with great stability, effectively withstanding offshore winds, waves, and seawater corrosion. Case 2: Domestic FPSO Mooring Upgrade Project

Project Location: An FPSO platform in the South China Sea.


Project Requirements: An upgrade to the existing mooring system was required, involving the replacement of certain aging mooring chains. The new chains needed to be fully compatible with the existing system while possessing high tensile strength and excellent fatigue resistance. Specifications ranged from 120mm to 142mm, and CCS certification was required.


Solution: We supplied this project with a combination of Grade R3 and R3S Stud Link Offshore Mooring Chains—deploying Grade R3S products for critical sections and Grade R3 products for non-critical sections. This approach successfully met the project's performance requirements while simultaneously optimizing project costs. Furthermore, we provided professional technical guidance regarding the installation process.


Project Feedback: Following installation, the products demonstrated perfect compatibility with the existing system and operated with stability. Both load-bearing capacity and fatigue resistance met the project's specifications, effectively enhancing the mooring safety of the FPSO platform and extending the overall service life of the mooring system.
